Using all of that knowledge, AAF has incorporated all of this into their new innovative design. AAF's Street Shifter with Adjustable Shift Shaft has a very wide array of available adjustments allowing you the ability to tune it exactly to your liking. If you want to change something about the way it works, most likely there is an adjustment for it! Adjustable Features: Throw Ratio: The knob height must remain at the same height and position for obvious ergonomic reasons. This means in order to incorporate a throw ratio adjustment WITHOUT changing the position of the knob or the pivot point, the location of the shift shaft connection must move closer or farther from the pivot point. This is done in the lower section of the shift lever. Adjustable Shift Shaft Included: Included is the AAF Adjustable Shift Shaft as they believe this allows for optimal shifting. With an adjustable shift shaft, you are able to move the shift knob forwards or backwards, as well as left or right (closer or farther from the steering wheel). You can make all these changes without affecting the spring position of 3rd and 4th gears. The shift shaft has an adjustment range from 165mm to 245mm. Knob Height: The AAF Race Shifter is capable of a total knob height change of 50mm while still having 3 different options for throw ratio. There are two knob spacers included, a 25mm and 50mm. This allows you to thread the knob down tight and lock it into place. Spring Center: Coupled with the AAF Adjustable Shift Shaft, the position of where your AAF Shifter springs to center is totally adjustable. There are two screws per center locator that can be used when setting your center position, then the upper cap will be locked down to ensure your center preference position never moves out of adjustment. Spring Pressure: One of the most unique features of the AAF Street Shifter is the centering spring mechanism. Unlike most shifters that use a typical steel spring, the AAF Street Shifter uses a polyurethane spring. This polyurethane spring absorbs shock and vibration load that a typical steel spring would magnify and resonate. This gives the AAF Street Shifter a connected feel to the transmission that is unmatched. It features two polyurethane springs. This allows the adjustment of the centering location of each spring independently which gets rid of any slack but also allows for preloading of the spring. AAF also offers multiple different spring rates of polyurethane which are preloaded in house. Mounting and Installation: AAF's Street Shifter is centered directly over the factory shifter hole. This allows it to be to be installed in many BMW applications. E30 Applications: Race: bolts in on the sides of the transmission tunnel to eliminate any flex in the sheet metal Street: precision water-jet cut flat plate that reinforces the chassis from directly beneath the shifter All other information and installation details available on AAF's website!

Oftentimes, the first thing you will notice about your manual BMW is that the stock shifter throws are miles and miles long. We developed our short shifter kit as a solve for this common complaint about manual transmission BMWs. Our new short shifter kits are the culmination of years of research and development - we went back to the drawing board several times throughout the design process, in efforts to release a product that really stood out from the rest of the short shifters on the BMW market. We set out to design the perfect shift kit for your BMW. Now we realize perfect is a subjective term, so we gave our short shifter a wide range of height and throw adjustability. This wide range of adjustability allows you to easily make adjustments from the cabin of your BMW by just removing your shifter boot and using small hex head keys.

We made our short shifter for all of you. The weekend warriors, the trackday monsters, and even the daily drivers. We wanted to make something that made sense for any BMW enthusiast. For those who want to drive your car to the track, drive some hotlaps, and then drive back home, we developed a rally lever extension. Our rally lever extension allows you to keep your hands close to the steering wheel through shifts, in efforts to quicken shifts and reaction times on the track. The rally lever comes off and on in seconds with the unique locking design we engineered. After your track day win, you can easily swap back to the short lever for more comfortable daily driving.

Installation of this kit is one of the easiest to take on compared to the competition - our custom bearing cup allows for easy installation from inside of the car (on applications that use the stock shifter arm).

Adjustments

Independently adjustable knob height

- Adjustable by raising and lowering the lower lever position relative to the pivot ball.
- Note: ball position also affects knob height by ~10mm range.
Combined total throw adjustment range
- 24 to 45% reduction in throw over stock E90 M3 shifter.
Throw adjustment can be done in the car without removing the shifter
- Throw adjustment is accomplished by loosening set screw in shifter ball and rotating the ball within the cap using a couple of simple tools.

Lower Shifter Assembly
- CNC machined from 4140 chromoly steel and melonite coated for superior strength and exceptional durability and corrosion resistance.
- Shifter ball CNC machined from 304 stainless steel, finely polished for smooth operation and bushing wear resistance.
- Ball socket shifter bushings are precision machined from Nylatron® NSM.
  - self-lubricating and offers better wear resistance and impact resistance than other “premium” bearing grade plastics.
  - Provides a positive shifter feel that never fades because of worn out bearings or bushings.
  - Precision tolerance fitment in the bearing cup eliminates unwanted ball socket movement.
- Lower selector rod bushings precision machined from Nylatron® NSM
  - Precision fit tolerance on the selector rod to eliminate shifter linkage play.
  - Provides the ultimate in low friction, self-lubrication, wear resistance and impact resistance compared to other “premium” bearing grade plastics.
- Lower shift arm has an adjustment range of 10mm to dial in the throw and feel of your shifter.
  - Lower shift lever is locked in place by tightening provided set screw in the stainless steel ball.

Rally Upper Shift Lever
- Compatible with stock shift boot fits nicely into the machined groove at the bottom of the lever to maintain a clean look in the interior.
- Machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and type II anodized for exceptional durability and corrosion resistance.
  - Available in either black or clear anodize to match your vehicle’s interior.
- Rally shift knob is machined from black delrin.
  - Unlike aluminum, delrin will not hold heat so on those hot days you won’t have to worry about burning your hand on a knob that’s been baking in the sun.
  - Shift knob is threaded onto the end of the shift lever utilizing a standard ⅜-16 thread to allow for easy removal and attachment of your favorite beer tap or other accessory.
- “Quick Change” height adjustable upper shift lever design allows for quick swapping between optional “OE” style and “Rally Style” upper shift levers.
  - 22mm adjustment range to fine tune shifter throw and feel.

Shifter Bearing Cup Assembly
- CNC machined from billet 6061-T6 aluminum and type II blue anodized for exceptional durability and corrosion resistance.
- Shifter cup encapsulates shifter components allowing for easy installation from inside of the car.
  - Bushings, lower shifter assembly, spring, retaining washer and snap ring can be easily installed inside the cup before installing in vehicle.
  - Cup installs into OE shifter arm with supplied clamp and socket head cap screws.
    - Installation can be done from inside the car without having to remove the OE shifter arm to install screws from the side.
- Shifter bushings and cup are machined to tight tolerances to eliminate slop or play in the shifter assembly for a positive shifter feel.

Plagued with long throws, fore and aft play in gear, and a generally loose feeling, your OEM BMW shifter leaves much to be desired. While most standard carrier-mount short throw shifter kits will aid in reducing throw length and eliminating side-to-side play in gear, some enthusiasts long for a hardcore, race-inspired shifter that completely removes play and excessive throw length. At Turner Motorsport we share the same desire and set out to offer the ULTIMATE upgrade with this Performance Chassis Mount Short Shifter.

WHY UPGRADE?

Factory BMW shifter assemblies are complex by nature. The main component of this assembly is the shift carrier, a cast aluminum piece positioned inside the transmission tunnel that incorporates bushings at both ends for mounting. Like most factory parts, these bushings are designed to reduce NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) transmission to the cabin. To the spirited driver, however, these bushings translate to flex and vagueness in the shift lever. Moreover, because this carrier is mounted to both the transmission and the body, the entire shifter assembly will "float" with the driveline, further increasing the vague and imprecise feeling of your shifter.

Our Performance Chassis Mount Short Shifter removes the shift carrier assembly entirely—removing any prospect of flex caused by bushings or driveline movement. By contrast, this chassis mount shifter offers a drastic reduction in shift lever travel, vagueness, and side-to-side play. An elevated base allows for moving the fulcrum point upwards, resulting in a much shorter and more precise throw. Shift times are further reduced by a tall, "rally style" shift lever, used to aid in leverage while also bringing the lever closer to the steering wheel. Our design incorporates a proprietary centering spring design, which is adjustable for increasing or decreasing self-centering force. In short, this design eliminates all the drawbacks of your factory BMW shifter, translating to more control, greater precision, shorter throws, and faster shift times.

By reducing the shifter's throw, you can give your manual transmission BMW a sportier, more precise feel. However, with so many different "short shift kits" out there, how can you be sure you're making the right decision? With the introduction of the Rogue Engineering OCTANE short shift kit, the choice is now crystal clear!

Rogue Engineering refuses to compromise with "lever substitution" as a method of short shift kit development. Rather than using actual test vehicles for their products, some companies actually dig through OEM factory parts diagrams to determine which factory levers can be substituted with others. This "lever substitution" method of introducing product is unacceptable. These shift kits have been developed and perfected through years of experience in proven short shifter technology, by Co-Founder, Ben Liaw. As longtime BMW enthusiasts know, Ben was single-handedly responsible for introducing and developing the idea of affordable, BMW factory-like, short shift kits for late model BMWs (BL/SS for those young enough to remember!).

Rogue Engineering idea of a short shift kit is not substituting levers in place of factory ones just because "they fit". Throughout the 80s until recently, BMW was notorious for using only a few specific shifter levers for their manual transmission vehicles. For other companies, making just a few "replacement levers" and offering them in place of those factory part numbers was an easy way of calling it a short shift kit. Unfortunately, for those companies, BMW started using many different part numbers making it more difficult to just "swap in a lever".

Rogue Engineering only develops it's short shift kit with test vehicles in their facility, testing numerous prototypes, offering others to test it before settling on its final design. By reducing the shifter's throw, you can give your manual transmission BMW a sportier, more precise feel. However, with so many different "short shift kits" out there, how can you be sure you're making the right decision? With the introduction of the Rogue Engineering OCTANE short shift kit, the choice is now crystal clear!

Rogue Engineering refuses to compromise with "lever substitution" as a method of short shift kit development. Rather than using actual test vehicles for their products, some companies actually dig through OEM factory parts diagrams to determine which factory levers can be substituted with others. This "lever substitution" method of introducing product is unacceptable. These shift kits have been developed and perfected through years of experience in proven short shifter technology, by Co-Founder, Ben Liaw. As longtime BMW enthusiasts know, Ben was single-handedly responsible for introducing and developing the idea of affordable, BMW factory-like, short shift kits for late model BMWs (BL/SS for those young enough to remember!).

Rogue Engineering idea of a short shift kit is not substituting levers in place of factory ones just because "they fit". Throughout the 80s until recently, BMW was notorious for using only a few specific shifter levers for their manual transmission vehicles. For other companies, making just a few "replacement levers" and offering them in place of those factory part numbers was an easy way of calling it a short shift kit. Unfortunately, for those companies, BMW started using many different part numbers making it more difficult to just "swap in a lever".

Rogue Engineering only develops it's short shift kit with test vehicles in their facility, testing numerous prototypes, offering others to test it before settling on its final design. They feel that this old school, real world testing is the best way when modifying OEM ergonomic, sensory-based controls.
