Turner Motorsport Dual Shear Selector Rod (DSSR)

Enhance your N54-equipped 135i or 335i’s driving feel with the Turner Motorsport DSSR. Designed to give your shifter a much more precise and solid connection, this DSSR replaces the OEM selector rod, eliminating the play and deflection that come from single-shear designs. Pair it with a Turner short-shift kit for the ultimate shifting upgrade.

Think of the DSSR as a major upgrade from the single-contact OEM rod, much like riding a bike with two hands instead of one: you have stronger, more precise control over each gear change. With its dual-contact setup, the DSSR “sandwiches” both sides of the shifter and transmission, creating a direct link that feels solid, eliminating the vague and sloppy feel of the factory setup.

Remove your factory selector rod and take note of its orientation. Attach the DSSR to both the transmission selector joint and lower shift lever. Shift to 3rd or 5th gear for maximum access to the supplied hardware, then secure tightly.

Shifter slop is a common complaint among all BMW models. Some of that play comes from the bushings where the shifter carrier mounts to the transmission. The original rubber carrier bushings don't last very long and when they get too soft the shifter flops around. These Delrin bushings have almost no deflection and will last much longer than the factory rubber, giving you precise shifting for many years.

Note: this is only one part of the shift linkage and there may be other components that need replacing to improve shifting feel.

New carrier bushing pins are included.

The performance shifter adds about a 20% reduction in shifter travel, helping to make the shifter seem tighter and much sportier.

2000-2006 E46 BMW M3

Shifter slop is a common complaint among all BMW models. Some of that play comes from the bushings where the shifter carrier mounts to the transmission. The original rubber carrier bushings don't last very long and when they get too soft the shifter flops around. These Teflon bushings are not as stiff as Delrin so they won't transmit as much vibration and buzz in the shifter. Yet Teflon will last much longer than the factory rubber, giving you precise shifting for many years.

Note: this is only one part of the shift linkage and there may be other components that need replacing to improve shifting feel.

We advise getting a replacement bushing carrier pin as well. If the original rubber bushings are worn the pin will have wear too and you will still have slop in the shifter, even with the new bushings.

These are the OVAL shifter carrier bushings (some BMW models have round bushings).

Prepare for an elevated driving experience with the Turner Weighted Shift Knob. This 6-speed coin-designed knob not only feels fantastic but also enhances shifting with added weight, resulting in faster engagement. Crafted from billet 6061-T6 aluminum, CNC machined for precision, and anodized for durability, it's the perfect complement to Turner's short shift kits.

The 6-speed Getrag 420G transmission, found in the European E36 M3 Evolution and E46 M3, has become an increasingly popular swap amongst E36 owners. Its increased strength, longevity, and overdrive sixth gear make it a great choice for both track cars and daily drivers. Unfortunately, many of the components needed to complete this transplant have become hard to source. Despite increased demand from enthusiasts, BMW has blocked the sale of European E36 M3 parts into North America.

Recognizing this issue, we set out to develop a replacement for the unavailable, 420G-specific selector rod. Like all OEM selector rods, the factory part uses single-shear attachment, allowing for deflection within the shifter linkage. The result? Vague, imprecise gear selections that detract from your overall driving experience. The dual-shear selector rod (DSSR) design spreads the torsional force of gear selections across the selector rod joint, reducing deflection for increased precision. Our dual-shear selector rod is precision-machined from durable 304 stainless steel to further reduce deflection and resist corrosion.
