Bonked on the head again with the rear hatch on your E53 X5? Most likely the upper trunk hatch shocks (gas pressurized springs) have failed and are no longer able to support the hatch. Replace yours today!

These struts hold the trunk up, allowing you to unload your cargo easily. When they fail however, it becomes more of a nuisance than anything. Now whenever you get into your trunk, you have to use one hand to hold up to lid. Or, if you trust them for a while, your trunk deck comes down unexpectedly to close with you in the middle.
