This secondary air shut off valve helps to reduce emissions by mixing fresh air with the exhaust. When this part fails cause a engine fault code and it will trigger a "service engine soon" light.

This is also one of the main causes of carbon build-up in the E39 M5 secondary air system. This shut-off valve can allow exhaust gas to blow back into the system where it accumulates. Regular replacement of this part will help prevent that build-up.

The E36 Charcoal filter canister helps to capture fuel vapors from the fuel tank. Overfilling of the fuel tank can lead to raw fuel entering the canister which saturates the activated charcoal filter and plugs up the filter. The result can be reduced fuel economy.
